Lead Carpenter

Earthshare Construction LLC is seeking a highly skilled Lead Carpenter to guide the on-site operations of our construction projects. The Lead Carpenter will be instrumental in advancing Earthshare’s mission to offer best practices in sustainable building and design. Primary responsibilities include: organization on site, establishing workplace norms, managing crew and trade partners, ordering materials, overseeing inspections, completing all necessary documentation, and ensuring quality. This role involves close collaboration with our Project Management team.

The ideal candidate would be a proven leader with 10+ years of carpentry experience and knowledge of building science and high performance residential construction. The candidate would be interested in living and working in the Upper Valley area for an extended period. Desired Skills and Competencies

Carpentry skills:

  • solid knowledge of basic carpentry, building materials, and installation/repairs

  • ability to comfortably and safely operate the full complement of carpentry tools

  • capacity to manage the flow of labor and materials in a busy job setting

  • ability to lift and carry 50 lbs

  • ensures that projects meet the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction

  • takes responsibility for completing all installation, repair, punch list, and job close-out tasks

  • shows ongoing interest in continuing education and development

  • valid driver’s license with willingness and ability to drive to sites within 30-60 minutes of our office and shop in Lebanon, NH.

  • a strong work ethic, attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, a positive attitude, and aptitude for both independent and team-oriented work


Additional Lead Carpenter skills:

  • maintains personal, jobsite, and crew safety at all times

  • manages daily site organization and cleanliness

  • plans ahead to keep job site stocked with required materials

  • provides crew daily tasks based on overall schedule, maintains (or increases) workflow efficiencies

  • uses excellent time planning and communication skills to coordinate trade partner schedules and clarify trade partner scope of work

  • ensures accurate cost coding for crew’s timesheets

  • upholds high quality standards for crew and trade partners, providing clear and timely feedback as necessary

  • shares construction knowledge base with crew and is eager to teach crew unfamiliar skills or improved techniques

  • works well with 1-3 carpenters of mixed skill levels and is able to partner with other leads

  • effectively to schedule workers across projects

  • sets a positive tone and example on site for workplace norms; leads with integrity and maintains crew morale

  • remains familiar with project drawings and specs, production schedule, and budget throughout project

  • collaborates with Project Management team to shape and update production schedule regularly, aiming to avoid delays

  • partners with Project Management team when client requests a change to scope of work so Change Orders are signed prior to starting additional work

  • uses budget to make decisions about material purchases and labor allocation

  • coordinates inspections and meets with inspectors

  • receives and inspects vendor deliveries, appropriately cost coding all materials

  • provides accurate project documentation and reporting in a timely manner

  • keeps client informed about issues of importance to the client; responds to client requests quickly and professionally

  • solves problems on own initiative and handles any operational issues that arise promptly and effectively, soliciting help from Project Management team when needed

  • reliably communicates via phone and email, communicating regularly with clients, trade

  • partners, vendors, and other Earthshare project members

Schedule, Wage, and Advancement

A Lead Carpenter is expected to work a minimum of 35-40 hours per week during the business hours of 7:00am–4:30pm on weekdays. The pay range is $35-$45/hr, depending on experience, with room to advance.
